Write right now - how to get past writer's block

I have bad bouts of writer's block. Sometimes I will just sit and stare at the computer for a long tine (hours) and not figure out what it is that I want to write about, much less what I want to say about it.

One way to get around writer's block is to just sit and start writing. Forget trying to come up with something to write about, just type and see where it goes. You may have to go back and edit the start of the piece because it rambled too much, but you will likely find that you end up with a usable bit of writing somewhere along the way that can be used in writing about a subject you did not even know you were considering writing about. I've done this before, most often it has worked with writing short fiction stuff when I am at the deadline for getting a writing excercise submitted to my creative writing group, but it also worked for non-fiction articles or whatever you need to get written.
