My love of writing is such that I have often explained as "I get the jitters if I'm not writing". I suppose that is what is needed to have a career as a writer, a desire for writing, perhaps even an addiction to writing.
Most of the skills that are needed to write can be taught, but I don't know how someone would learn to love to write if they did not have a love of writing begin with.
Maybe that is what separates the true writers from the wannabe writers, a genuine love of the written word and of the process of writing, a love that cannot be learned, one that someone can only be born with. An innate desire to pick up a pen and, good or bad, write something.
