I have a print out that hangs on my wall that is a passage out of How to Enjoy Writing: A Book of Aid and Comfort by Isaac and Janet Asimov. It is something that Isaac Asimov said about how a writer has to have self assurance. He is encouraging the writer not to concern themself with writing the perfect sentence, to believe that they are a reasonably good writer to begin with and will have, therefore have written a reasonably good sentence. Don't revise and perfect it as you work, go back when you have finished and then just fix what needs to be fixed. Don't spend hours and hours making it perfect, make it good and move on. What he is talking about is writing with confidence and writing prolifically. And since I lost count (and I am sure he did to) of just how many articles, novels, papers and what-not the man has in print, I am not going to argue with his formula for being a prolific writer. Are you?
If you have not read How to Enjoy Writing: A Book of Aid and Comfort by Isaac and Janet Asimov, then I encourage you to get a copy as quickly as you can. It is one of my favorite books on writing.
