I want to check out Google Earth later tonight, try seeing if the 3D buildings you can apparently create for it can be set to be privately viewed. Been too long since I messed with Google Earth, I am not sure just what the thing is anymore. They was just getting going the last time I checked it out.
If I can make 3D buildings though, and no one else can see them, then I could create the buildings for my fantasy world on a map to the Earth. That could get interesting. Especially if I could also modify terrain, which I doubt I could. It would be neat to be able to move a 3D model of Buckingham Palace over to a secluded valley somewhere to be a castle in my novels. LOL Or to be able to change the looks of places like the Pyramids of Giza or the Mayan temples so that the areas look like they did when they were being built.
Can you imagine the possibilities of being able to craft your novel's world into an overlay of the modern world? Then add in the ability to tour inside of buildings and you have a complete 3D tour of your novel's world so you can walk in the footsteps of your heroes as they explore.
If you can create buildings that are not shared publicly, but maybe be able to share them with one or more friends, it could be a great collaborative tool for writing novels. You can your co-author(s) could all see the same things and have the same idea on where things are in the novel world. I wonder if anyone has built Hogwarts on the Google Earth yet? lol
