It was around 424 B.C. that the Greek playwright Sophocles finished his play Oedipus the King (also known as Oedipus Rex). The play was first performed in 428 BC and has been hailed by many, including Aristotle, as the greatest tragedy ever written. The play is one of a trilogy that includes: Oedipus at Colonus and Antigone.
You can find the complete plays of Sophocles, translated to English, on the Project Gutenberg website.
