Stop Motion

I have picked up on a new passion that dates back as far as my childhood. When I was little I watched Jason and the Argonauts by Ray Harryhausen. Now, if you have never seen this movie, and you like stop motion, get your tail over to the rental store and get a copy of it. Now. I can wait until you get back.

Back? Good, now, this was one of the most amazing films to me and I nearly wore out the rental tape wanting to watch the skeletons over and over and.. you get the idea. The stop motion work done on those skeletons was something that captivated my imagination in a way that until then only Star Wars had managed. If I had not been hooked by Star Wars, those skeletons would have had me for sure. As it was they had me on the notion of creating special effects. When I watched it I did not know they were stop motion, I found that out later, but I was determined whatever it was I wanted to learn it. Years passed and I did learn, but I never had the ability to get the things to actually make the stop motion films. Lack of a camera sort of puts a damper on that stuff. Later on I got my cameras, but there was other stumbling blocks between me and making the films I wanted to make so after a few failed efforts to get it done i... well, I gave up and became a writer.

Now I am able to get the things that I wanted to have way back when I was a kid. Now I can start making the movies I had wanted to years ago. So now, I am going to dive back in. No, I'm not giving up my writing. I work as a writer. Stop motion will be my relaxation. My "slow down and relax" therapy that I can't rush or I will ruin it. I have the ability now to do what I have always loved and I am going to enjoy being able to do it.

Want to know more about Ray Harryhausen? I found his website earlier when I was meandering looking for stuff. Check it out.
