Using the senses when writing

Okay, so you have all this flowery prose in your novel, but... what does it smell like? I have heard the advice several times to be aware of all of the senses when you are writing a novel. Describe what the characters are seeing, but also what they smell.

Walking into an old tomb is not quite as unsettling when the only description is a dank room that has cobwebs on the ceiling. How about telling us what dank smells like? Instead of seeing the cobwebs, how about if we experience what it feels like when they touch the skin.

I'm not going to go into great detail here on how to achieve this (frankly because I am still learning myself), but there are a lot of books on describing what is happening in a story in a way that we can feel and smell it rather than just being told "it's a dank room with cobwebs on the ceiling." Show it to us!
