Awwww man, I was so excited to see the Barnes & Noble exclusive Authors Chess Set in the April issue of Writer's Digest that I went immediately to the B&N website and looked it up. I was dejected by the $100 price tag, but might have found that acceptable if not for the fact that both sides had the same authors.
King - Mark Twain
Queen - Emily Dickinson
Bishop - Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
Knight - Edgar Allen Poe
Rook - Walt Whitman
Pawn - stacked books
Both sides had the same and the bishop, knight, and rook was the same author four times. ::sigh:: That won't work for what I wanted. I wanted to have small busts of all my favorite authors to arrange along my bookshelves in my office. That would have been worth the $100 if the pieces were all different. Well, the pawns being books I could have used, but not two Mark Twains and four Walt Whitmans.
Nice chess set, and great idea, but should have more variety in the pieces.
