Packing your car for a writer's retreat

Packing a car is never an easy thing, but when you are packing one to go off on a writing retreat it can be extra confusing. I have a few tips that might make it a more enjoyable drive, however.

Pack so that drinks and snacks are easily accessible when you pull off to rest for a few moments. And keep your laptop or other writing materials easy to get to so you can write when you are taking a break from driving and have some ideas for an article or scene for your book. A small notebook kept on the console or back of the seat pocket is invaluable for jotting down notes so you do not forget them before you get the chance to write. Also make sure that you carry an easy to reach camera so you can take pictures during your trip. Keep a small notebook and pen with the camera so you can make notes about the pictures that you have taken - write the basic image description and what number on the roll the picture is for future reference. And if you are using a film camera you should keep a permanent marker handy for numbering the rolls of film so you know which ones go with which notes later on.
