Fireplace in house, still chilly

I've got the fireplace installed and working, which means that I am now sitting in the living room listening to the news and watching the fire in the fireplace. It is very very nice, even if it is not really all that warm. We need to keep the house to 72 degrees Fahrenheit in order for my dad to be warm enough, so we are currently 10 degrees colder than it needs to be for him to be comfortable, this morning it was 50, over 20 degrees colder than it needs to be for him to be comfortable.

Another concern I have is the pipes under the house. The basement has always been 15 to 20 degrees cooler than the upstairs, so when we were at 50 degrees up here this morning, the basement would have been getting very close to if not below freezing level with the water pipes. ::wince::

Sounds lovely, I would love a real fireplace in my home. I'm surprised you cant get the temperature to 72 degrees though!

Something I did not note in there, Dave, was that the temperature outside was over -22 degrees Fahrenheit outside. At those temperatures you kind of need to have an airtight stove that you can damper down.
