I was watching the news earlier and they were announcing that VIBE has ceased publication.
Founded in 1993 by Quincy Jones, the magazine described itself as “the definitive voice of urban culture, influencing global music, life, and style.”
Advertising was the apparent kick that broke the magazine, a drop in advertising sales due to the decline in major advertisers from the automotive and fashion industries hurting the magazine's ability to continue publication.
IN the second half of last year VIBE reported circulation at over 800,000, however, the magazine simply does not have the advertising inflow that it needs to maintain itself.
Something that might save VIBE is the original founder, Quincy Jones, who is apparently discussing buying the magazine with possible plans to drop the print edition and make it a strictly online publication.
