After as long as I have been delaying this office redesign, trying to find my camera, I have now got the messiest office in the world. I just leaned back and looked around and realized, if I had to find something right now I would be S.O.L.. Between moving things outta where the shelves go and going through boxes in search of my camera (that I know isn't in them since I lost it before I packed them) I have created a complete disaster that will take months to untangle. Think of a ball of yarn that a cougar played with. ::shaking head:::
Ah well, maybe I can repack boxes and shove them under the other desk and pile them around computer and.....
:::pounds head on desk::: Why did I start this project?

I've finally got my little Polaroid mom and dad gave me for Christmas years ago working, which has been a struggle and a learning lesson and I am not even sure what I did that revived it, but it's breathing... well.. at least it's working, not breathing exactly.
The point is, I may not get good pictures from it, but I get at least visible ones and will now start putting my shelving together here in the office and sharing with everyone how I have built the things. I'm still looking for that new Canon I picked up off eBay, but at least I can get started on cataloging how I build my shelves for anyone else that is wanting to redesign their home office.
So that's today's project, get started on them shelves and hope the camera holds out until I find the other one again. At ten years the poor thing is ready for the electronics pile in the sky, but I dearly love it and will be sad when I can no longer coax it to work.

Deciding what I need in my office
One of the hardest things to decide on my new office, is what do I need to have in the office. I'm going over all sorts of things that I might need for my writing work and what I can do without. I know I need a card file, and I also need some dry erase boards. I want bulletin boards. I have to have a place for maps. Must have book shelves. Need a printer area where I can put the printer, spare ink cartridges, and paper. Need a mailing center area for envelopes of all sizes and manuscript boxes. The trick is in sorting out where each element will go so I have the office looking good rather than over-cluttered and a mess.
Building shelves in my office
Okay, my office is slowly coming together. I have a plan for how the area all across one full wall will evolve and it is looking goos so far. I've lost my camera, which really makes me mad, or I would take pictures of it. I'm sure the camera is in the house (I think), so I am searching for it in boxes and such, but no luck so far. I'd love to document how these shelves are built though, So going slow as I work on them and look for the camera.
Right now, armed with a dozen 6' long 1x10's I am in the plotting stages for what I want to do with the area and how it should evolve. The one thing I know for certain is that I am going to incorporate my card file into the end of it so that the card file cabinet will be handy to store book plotting cards and other stuff I need on hand such as character and scene cards. I have some drawer file card deals too, where the drawer pulls out and drops down to show a series of cards. I want to incorporate those as well.
And a place for maps and for bulletin boards and for .... there is so much I need in here and so little room to do it all in. LOL I'll keep y'all updated and hopefully find my camera so I can start sharing pictures of the evolution of the office.

Office Shelving
Got the boards to install shelving in the office. Just went and got nails too, so now I can start building the bookshelves that I want along one wall of the office. It will be a long drawn out construction project, because I can't afford to get all of the lumber that I will need all at once, but I should be able to get a really good start with what I have now (I hope so, $100 worth of wood) and then I am building it so it can be added to and expanded as the office evolves and more is able to be added into the thing.
I also priced routers, so I can build the shelves properly. Lowes has a nice one for $60, tomorrow I want to check the other places and see if I can find anything maybe a little more my price range, if not I may just bite the billet. Better than the $120 and up most of the routers go for. I'd still have to get a one inch bit for making the places to inset the shelves. That's another $16 to $20 for that bit.
