Teamwork in the automotive industry for a better environment

The environment is something that everyone is thinking about lately, and it is something that I have been looking to write about for some articles I want to get written, so I was very interested when I heard that Isuzu and Toyota have come together to have a positive impact on environmentally friendly alternatives in the automobile industry.

People seem to be driving a lot of large trucks lately, or at least they seem to be driving more than normal in the area where I live, and I can only assume it has something to do with diesel engines that large trucks have. Now, mind you, when I say large I don't mean extended cab, I mean huge. One I saw a few days ago, which was fire engine red even, had me looking for insignia and stuff that might identify it as a fire engine. So, I am interested in Isuzu and Toyota's plan to come together and research, development and produce technologically advanced small diesel engines for passenger cars.

Katsuaki Watanabe, President of Toyota, states, "Toyota sees protecting the environment as the biggest mission for an automaker." Yoshinori Ida, President of Isuzu, seems to agree with that. Watanabe goes on to note that hybrid technology is one effective way to protect the environment, "but given that each country has different energy policies and regulations... we believe it is necessary to further strengthen areas related to diesels."

Ida states, "By teaming up with Toyota, I am certain that we will be able to create the world's best diesel engines." The alliance is something that he sees as not only strengthening the competitive edge of the two companies, but as something that will also contribute to the global environment. That is something that I think is going to be worth keeping an eye on. While many automobile companies already work to put the environment first, I am hoping that more of the large automobile companies will follow their lead in working together toward that goal.
