Outlining in 3x5

If creating a road map and guidebook companion seems like a little too much work for you, then another good option for creating an outline that I have found works very good for me (until I lost it) is to take a stack of 3x5 index cards and write one scene for your novel on each one. If you use a bulletin board to pin them up and organize them then you can easily sort through which scenes you have written and which ones need to be written so that you can quickly lay out a novel, then just go through the stacked cards and write out each scene as it is arranged in the stack of cards.

I did this for Heir to Magic and followed the cards up through chapter 16. Then I lost the stack of cards and have been fumbling for what I had intended to do with the novel since. It worked really really good until I lost my outline cards though.
