As a writer I am, of course, always in the market for a new printer. Most of my printers have so far been Lexmark printers simply because they were the cheapest thing going. I've most recently bought an HP 3900 series that I adore, but it goes through ink very fast. I've heard both good and bad about the Epson inkjet printers, and so far the bad seems to be mostly about the price of their ink cartridges and that they will not let you print just black if the color is out of ink and vice versa.
I'm not sure what the complaint on the ink is about though, since the Epson Stylus D88+ seems to have good prices on ink cartridges with a lot of good features including borderless photo printing, 4 color photo lab printing quality, and low cost for the printer.
I also have my eye on the Epson Stylus C48, a home printer that has a resolution of up to 2880dpi and lists its print cartridges as being affordable.
I would like to be able to get a Epson Stylus Color 3000, a printer with a capability for printing banners 16 inches wide by 16 feet long. That would make the perfect Christmas present for my oldest brother, but at roughly $1,000 that one will have to wait until after I have some other things paid for - like dad's powered wheel chair.
Overall I'm thinking that Epson printers are definitely worth looking into, because they seem to have less problems reported than other printers with the number one complaint the cost of ink - something that if the print cartridges are of a decent enough size could be a non-issue since you might be getting three times the ink for only twice the cost.
