Wallhogs - lifesized wall art from your own images

Okay, this has got to be one of the better ideas I have seen in a while and my biggest trouble was in determining what blog to talk about it on. lol Have you seen Wallhogs?

Wallhogs are 7' x 52" (that's over 4') wall graphics made from your pictures.

The way it works is you take one of your photos or a graphic, and submit it to them, they'll even remove the background for you, and they blow it up to 7 feet tall by over four feet wide. Then it is printed on a semi-adhesive vinyl, you get it via UPS, and can be installing your new masterpiece in just minutes.

I decided to write about them here because of my mural of my fantasy world I am making on my wall. Can you imagine creating a picture of your world map and putting it on your wall? How about a life-size picture of the main characters in your novels to display on your office wall? A dragon breaking through the wall? Or a UFO beaming down an alien? I know I don't have to go on, any writers out there already have a million ideas that I ain't even dreamed up - How about Mark Twain or another famous writer with a speech or thought bubbles that has a famous writing quote?

To demonstrate their duribility the guy that sells them says that he once shot an RPG at his. "The wall came down but the Hog survived :-)"

I can't gurantee the statement, but they do with a 30 day money back, no questions gaurantee.

You can have it printed on glossy poster paper (like a typical poster) or canvas.

Balancing books

I've been working hard on getting my bank information all organized, now if I can just find all them little slips of paper so I can enter them into the mix I'll be good to go.

Also have to get back into my savings account via online. ::grr:: They changed the username on me a few months back, and when I tried to fix it she told me wrong temp password, so of course it locked up AGAIN. Now I have to call my bank and sort it out. Procrastinated on that long enough, since I'm not messing with NaNoWriMo for a day at least I will get that sorted out today so I can balance the rest of my books and see if I can make sense of saving some money each month to go toward eventual retirement.

Healthy Coffee? Oh, this begs to be checked out at 8 a.m.

It should be no surprise that as I am sitting at my desk catching up on the morning through bleary eyes as I sip quickly cooling coffee that my attention would be caught by the words "1st Healthy Coffee!" Oh really now? This deserves looking into.

So off I go to take a look at the site and see just what this healthy coffee is. The site is easy enough to find, http://1stHealthyCoffee.com, and although I can't say me and the color pink gets long very well first thing in the morning, the thought of a "Health Promoting and Anti-Aging Gourmet Coffee" is enough to get me to squint at the screen and read past the pink and red theme.

I'm a newbie to drinking coffee, having been converted within I think the past year by my dad after thirty-five years of being just fine without the acidic stuff thank you very much. This year, however, it's one of the things on my Christmas list so... ::shakes head::

Anyway, about this new healthy coffee, the first page tells me what this is all about:

"What Makes this Gourmet Coffee Health Promoting and Anti-Aging?
  • Non- Acidic
  • No Chemicals
  • Increased Energy
  • Costs Less Per Cup
  • Reduces Physical Fatigue
  • Less than Half the Caffeine
  • Over 200 Health Enhancing Nutrients
  • Over 150 All Natural and Organic Antioxidants"

And it has a 100% money back guarantee, that's kewl.

I would tell you more about this elixir from 1st Healthy Coffee.com, but they require registration to learn more and I don't have enough coffee in me yet this morning to decide if I want to hand off my e-mail address or not. They do promise "We respect your privacy and we wont sell or distribute your e-mail address" though.

A late start to the day

I've been trying fairly hard to get up when my friend in California wakes to go to work. That way her and I can spend a few minutes chatting as we wake up and get a little bit of a jump on having a good day for both of us. That generally means me waking at 6 or 7 a.m. here in Alaska.

This morning I blurrily woke and grabbed my cell phone to check the time and discovered it was set for vibrate. DOH! No. ::pouts:: I'd misses waking up on time and there was a note from my friend that she had headed out for work and would see me tonight. ::sigh::

So, here it is nearing 8 a.m. and I am sipping coffee and listening to Rick Rydell (sp?) on the radio talking about the Alaskan Senate and he has me pondering on if there's anything before them on Family Caregivers. I'll have to look into it and see. Still nothing being done about the Family Caregiver Security Act of 2005 (H.R. 175).

Dealing with Discouragement - article by Jenna Glatzer

The following article is reprinted with permission.

Dealing with Discouragement
By Jenna Glatzer

I can’t name a single writer whose career has been without discouragement. We’ve all dealt with rejections, non-responses, bad reviews, losing a contest we were sure we’d win, having someone laugh at us when we share our career goals...

What sets apart the successful writers from the unsuccessful ones, in part, is the way we deal with these discouragements.

Let’s take a pretty common scenario. You’ve written something (a novel, screenplay, essay, short story, poetry collection, whatever) and you’ve sent it out ten times. All ten recipients either reject it or don’t respond at all. How do you react?

1. You yell, cry, wallow in pity, eat HoHos, etc.
2. You vow never to write again.
3. You grit your teeth and say, “I’ll show them. They’ll be sorry!” and begin cranking out a new masterpiece.
4. You keep sending it out and figuring it’ll find a home soon enough.
5. You reread the piece and decide it needs some editing.

Any of those reactions is fine and normal and appropriate... but those first two are appropriate for a limited time only.

Those first two reactions are the ones I’ve been thinking about lately. I get letters pretty often from writers who are down in the dumps over rejections, and they want me to advise them. “What should I do?” they’ll ask me. “I just want to give up.”

Truth? If you really want to give up-- not just temporarily as a result of a stinging criticism-- it’s probably healthier for you to do so.

Thing is, some people are pathological pity-hounds. They go to other writers and say, “I’m so discouraged! I got ten rejections and I think I’m just going to give up because no one wants me”

Almost without fail, writers will jump in and say, “Don’t give up! Don’t ever give up!” They mean well, of course. They want to be encouraging and caring. But the hard truth is that some people aren’t cut out to be writers-- not because of a lack of talent, but because of an oversensitivity to discouragement.

See, they go through these cycles. They feel discouraged by publishers, so they come to fellow writers, who feed them with encouragement. Then they go back to the publishers, get discouraged again, and the cycle repeats.

At what point should we encouragers stop bandaging the problem and let the writer figure out if he or she can deal with the down-sides of writing?

When someone comes to the point of asking, “How long should I keep sending out this manuscript before I quit?” the answer is usually, “Quit now.” Why? Not because the work may never sell-- for all I know, it could be the hottest best-seller of all times-- but because the writer is already showing battle fatigue.

If you’re discouraged before your career even starts, how will you have the stamina to handle all the other discouragements that are bound to come your way?

Your editor leaves the house and the new editor wants a total rewrite, taking out what you think is your “best stuff.”

Sales aren’t great, so the publisher doesn’t want your next book.

Reviews are mixed, and some reviewers call your work trite and simplistic.

Your agent drops you.

Your book is sitting in the remainder bins in less than two years.

Someone else comes out with a book just like yours a month before your book’s publication date, and bookstores don’t order yours because it’s too similar to the one they just stocked.

The media ignores you.

Your publication date gets postponed twice, and your advance money has run out before the electric bill arrives.

Mean-spirited people post nasty reviews of your book on Amazon and elsewhere.

You take a risk and write in a new genre, only to find out that no one will buy it and you’ve “wasted” six months of your life.

These things happen.

Sometimes I think of that writer who’s so discouraged and worn out after ten rejections that she’s already threatening to quit, and I imagine her five or ten years down the line. Even if she sells that book, will she be able to handle all the other “stuff” that comes with being a writer?

Hey, we all go through crises of faith over our talents. We all get down, and most of us contemplate giving up at some point. The question you need to ask yourself is if this roller-coaster of emotions and career highs and lows suits your personality in the long term. Do you usually feel like giving up? Do you constantly seek outside assurance? If you knew that in your lifetime, you would accumulate 1,000 rejections instead of ten, does that thought make you miserable?

Don’t be so self-hating as to stick yourself into a business that depresses you. If you can imagine those rejections and tough spots and still believe that you’ll be happy with your life and your career overall, you’ll be fine. The good should outweigh the bad. But if it sounds terribly painful, why not keep writing as a hobby and find a different career goal?

Writing isn’t something most of us get into because we expect to get rich quick, or because we expect to become household names. We do it because it brings us creative fulfillment and a sense of accomplishment, and maybe the lifestyle attracts us. So weigh that against the disappointments and figure out: Is writing still making you happy? Is it worth it for you if you have to fight through the discouragements?

If the answer for you is “yes,” you’ll never have to ask someone if you should quit. You’ll know deep down that you would never quit, no matter how tough it gets. If the answer is “no,” don’t prolong your pain. Accomplishing your goals isn’t a good enough payoff if you’re going to be miserable all the way there.

Spend your time doing things that bring you more pleasure than pain. Whatever you choose to do with your life, if you’ve made the right choices, you’ll never have to ask someone when it’s time to quit.

NaNoWriMo nears a end - have I made it to 50,000 words? We shall see....

I'm floundering in the wake of the drawing close of NaNoWriMo and looking at this as the year that I will not make my goal. I've just had too much else on my plate to get the story work done, but I will compile what story stuff I have and see how much it is. What's that they say on Galaxy Quest? "Never Give Up, Never Surrender"?

Onward I type, knowing that I have far and beyond surpassed my typing requirements rather I finished NaNo as well or not. There are, after all, more imoportant things than that, such as making money to help pay for th $20 to $40 a day in heating fuel we're using - right?

Anyway - I'll let you all know in a few days how I did on that. I feel happy rather I hit 50,000 words this month or not though. I hit at least over 30,000 and have a strong backdrop for a story that just needs a plot. LOL

Dealking.com - Get cash back for shopping online

While there are many coupon and deal sites, there are only a few cash back deal sites.

Dealking.com bills themselves as the most aggressive and has several deals or cash back offers that are worth looking into. dealking.com's self proclaimed best offer is the T mobile phone for free, but they have many others.

Dealking.com works through members logging into the site, then visiting their favorite online stores. When a member connects to those stores through Dealking.com the customer earns cash. There are no referrals, no SPAM, no annoyances. Dealking is given a comission by the stores for sending them traffic, and Dealking shares that commission with their members.

And, payouts are at $20, so they can be very easily reached with only an average amount of online shopping.

AIM Chat Color Cycle Code Cracked

I've cracked the code! After years of using AIM and a lot of trying to figure out just how to tell when you are going to be blinded by your buddy being neon in a chat room, I have cracked the code. It came about yesterday while I was being repeatedly knocked out of the AIM chat I was in with two friends. Each time I went back into the chat I was presented with new colors on their names. So, I chronicled the colors and through testing and watching and a couple of more chats I have determined that I now have the pattern of the AIM chat colors figured out!

If you use AIM and chat a good deal on it, then this might be something you have considered before yourself, so I present the AIM Chat Color Cycle for your reference.

There are 23 colors in the sequence, starting with Blue (#0000ff) as the color of the first person other than yourself that enters the chat room. From there the colors are assigned in order based on the entry of chatters into the room. The codes are as follows:

Blue
#0000ff
Green
#7fffd4
Salmon
#fa8072
Gray
#f5f5dc
Orange
#ff7f50
Aqua
#00ffff
Yellow
#ffff00
Lt. Gray
#a9a9a9
Green
#006400
Brown
#a52a2a
Orange
#ff8c00
Gray
#808080
Purple
#800080
Lt. Green
#008000
Saffron
#ffd700
Purple
#4b0082
Tan
#f0e68c
Grey
#e6e6fa
Pink
#ff00ff
Navy
#000080
Orange
#ffa500
Pinkish
#ffc0cb
Gray-brown
#d2b48c

Note that the color names are just my best guess at colorations descriptions for what appears on my monitor, and also that for some reason the colors are slightly different looking in AIM chat from HTML pages. Not sure why. Mostly they're right, but the second color Green#7fffd4 shows up here to me as a pale pea green color, but in AIM chat it's more like a dark forest Green. Once the cycle reaches the end, it restarts at blue (#0000ff).

Emblaze Ltd. announces the release of emoze 1.30

Now you don't have to be at your computer to get important e-mails. Imagine being able to receive work or home emails and Personal Information Manager (PIM) data such as contacts and diary scheduling on your mobile phone, or PDA, anywhere in the world.

Emblaze Ltd. has released emoze 1.30. This is the world's first free and secure "push" email and PIM service.

Current release works with all Microsoft PocketPC. Within the next few weeks emoze 1.2 will cover the vast majority of Smart-Phones and Symbian devices such as Nokia S60 and S70.

emoze 1.30 will automatically push your emails and PIM data to your phone as soon as it is sent to you with no need to pro-actively connect to a service every time you want to send or receive.

For the past few years, this type of service has been available mainly in a very costly package and mostly restricted to a specific hardware and software platforms such as the Blackberry and thus limiting mass market adoption. emoze 1.30 removes such barriers with a totally free, simple, flexible, and secure service, creating significant savings for corporate users and consumers alike.

emoze 1.30 is easy to use, all you need to have is an email account and a compatible device with the interface being similar to a traditional email program. The emoze software can be downloaded free from www.emoze.com and set up quickly and simply.

emoze technology is particularly focused around personal and corporate privacy, providing one of the best security solutions available for mobile email. emoze does not gather or send information from users’ PCs or in-boxes. There are no cookies, no spywares and no duplication of user data on emoze servers.

You can find out more at www.emoze.com

They don't seem to support my cell phone (a Kyocera), so I'm afraid that I can't tell you what I think about their service. Sorry.

From their site:

"emoze currently works with any Microsoft Mobile or Symbian device with a GPRS or other data connection with Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Notes Domino servers and POP3 online email services such as Hotmail, Yahoo! and Gmail.

Within months, emoze will be available without the need of PC based on-line software.

emoze currently supports all major brands including Nokia, Samsung, Motorola and others. Over the time, emoze will continue to cover the ever-growing range of devices and models."

Just a bit over 3,000 words a day to go

The next time I decide that I want to work on NaNoWriMo, nerf me. I seem to be getting everything done EXCEPT my novel and now have it where if I want to finish it I need to type 3,000 words a day for the rest of the month. I know I can manage that, but sheeeesh it's a lott'a work to make myself sit and focus on.

Just a brief moment of insanity, trust me, it'll pass.... I think

Okay, some times, the folks at PayPerPost can get.. ehh... a little scary. LOL

Here we have a perfect example of insanity that has been left to fester a little tooooo long. And just think, there are people that are right now being paid to do this very thing to their shower doors. ::shaking head:: What won't someone do for money? Anyway, I just thought it was another snicker worthy, if a bit disturbed, example of the insanity that makes me love using PayPerPost as my primary blog marketing site.

Just so you are forewarned on what that is all about, it's a catfish impression. Be afraid, be very very afraid. LOL

It's a good thing that, in my own ways, I'm as insane as them people all are. Otherwise I'd be backing away and reaching for the phone to call in the little men with the comfy white coats to take a few people away.

Weddings - advertisement

The Knot Wedding Shop is the definitive destination for wedding supplies, and has top-quality wedding supplies and novelty items ranging from wedding cameras and ring pillows to personalized attendant gifts, cake toppers, wedding favors, and more!

According to The Knot Wedding Shop, many of these collections are the only ones available today that can be personalized with the couple's names and wedding date.

They claim to be the largest retailer of wedding supplies on the Internet, and stocked with over 1000 hard-to-find wedding supplies at the best prices around.

The Knot Wedding Shop offers brides 24-hour accessibility and quick turnaround delivery for all those last-minute orders before the big day.

The one flaw that I have seen is the lack of things available for same sex couples. Even their interchangeable bride and groom set only allows you to choose a bride AND groom, requiring same sex couples to order two (at $49.99 each) and then mix and match them to get their desired combination for a cost of twice what a man and woman would pay for the same cake topper.

Behind on NaNoWriMo still

I was supposed to write another 2,000 words on my NaNoWriMo stuff today (yeaterday), but I kind of got busy working on for pay things instead. I wonder if it'd be cheating to paste all my "for pay" stuff into my NaNoWriMo pages and count that writing as well? Probably.

Anyway, I am another half day behind, but still not out of the running. I'm going to be working early in the mornings after my friend in California leaves for work, get things written before my parents get up and need me, then get a bit more done. With luck I can catch up, after all, I got a quarter of it wrote in under three days, huh? That rate I should have it all in only 12 days - right? We'll see. I've pulled off last minute saves before but they're always 98% junk.

Writing as a Gift

Writing as a Gift
By Jenna Glatzer

“What am I supposed to give Anthony as a wedding gift?” I asked Kristin, my bridesmaid and person-who-was-married. “I mean, what kinds of things do brides give their grooms? I was thinking of hiring someone to clean the house before we left for the honeymoon so we’d come back to a spotless house. Is that a good wedding gift?”

“Um, no,” she said gently, so as not to make me feel like an idiot. “It should be something personal. Like, you could paint him a picture, or make a scrapbook, or write him a poem...”

A poem? Why, I had at least a dozen poems I’d written about him that he’d never seen. And if I wrote a few more, I’d have a whole chapbook!

That’s exactly what I did. Over the next couple of months, I wrote more poems. I wrote the final one the day before our wedding, capturing my feelings on the eve of our marriage. Then I printed them out, three-hole-punched them, made a cardstock cover, and tied the pages together with ribbon.

On our wedding day, I took him aside after our ceremony and read him the last poem. It was a perfect gift.

But you don’t have to wait for such a monumental occasion to use writing as a gift. One of my friends writes children’s books and illustrates them, then gives them to her grandkids on their birthdays. A successful greeting card publisher started out her business because she used to write original cards for all of her family and friends—they loved them so much that they encouraged her to offer her sentiments to the masses.

I’ve also “donated” personal essays to anthologies, just so I could give the book as a gift to the person the essay was about. I wrote a love letter to Anthony and sent it off to be published in the anthology Love Letters of a Lifetime, then gave it to him for Valentine’s Day.

A poem I wrote for my grandmother was made into a plaque by the James Lawrence Company. A poem to my mother was made into a plaque as well, which I gave her for Mother’s Day.

For my bridal shower, a family friend gave me two journals: one for Anthony, one for me. On the card, she wrote her instructions: We were to write in our journals every day, and exchange them on our first anniversary.

Your words don’t have to be published to be gifts. You can design your own prints, cards, banners, and books on your computer, or go truly hand-made and pick up a pack of construction paper and markers.

If you want to get fancy, you can hire an artist to make you a cover or design your work for you. Finding them couldn’t be simpler: try Googling “illustrators,” “graphic designers,” or “artists” and see for yourself!

You may write and self-publish your family history as a gift for all your relatives and future generations. Print-on-demand companies make this an affordable option if you shop around and do away with the “extras.”

You may use a program like Greetings Workshop to design a calendar. You can insert your own photos and poems or short sentiments, and even write in your own imaginative holidays.

Write your own romance, starring you and your significant other, as an anniversary gift. (Could be a short story, or a novella if you’re feeling ambitious!)

Write a story to be read every Christmas as a new family tradition.

Write an inspirational poem for a relative who’s in the hospital.

Write a limerick to stick in your daughter’s lunchbox.

At the local printer, a personalization shop, or several places online, you can have your words made up into a t-shirt, mug, poster, bumper sticker, magnet, or plaque.
It’s wonderful to find that strangers enjoy your published words, but it can be even nicer to find that your words can light up your children’s eyes, or your spouse’s, or your parents’. A gift of your talent and your heart is generous, and more meaningful than anything you could get at the local mega-mall. Spend some time today writing for someone you love.

The hermit life of a writer can often lead to online dating for single writers. It also may mean travel. If you're going to be dating online and traveling why focus only on the local opportunities for love?

Lovers Planet is a Russian dating and personals agency that focuses on single russian women
seeking men for marriage and romance. For most of these women dating implies marriage and family. Therefore, a relationship with a Russian bride (AKA "mail order brides") is likely to be different from any other relationship you have had before. According to Lovers Planet the divorce rate in marriages with Russian women tends to be much lower than with marriages in America, UK and Australia.

Lovers Planet says that they understand it takes time for a relationship to grow into marriage. Their dating service offers profiles and photos of single Russian and Ukraine women, as well as ladies from other countries of Eastern Europe.

Most Russian brides prefer to get to know a person before creating a more serious bond or marriage since they are looking for a life partner on this site.

Lovers Planet claims that each year millions of men from US, Canada and Australia meet, marry and admire brides from Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and other countries of Eastern Europe. They also state that many couples eventually create successful families and raise beautiful and intelligent children, and that marriages to Russian brides have a proven track record of success. You can find Russian women profiles or post your own ad for free.

Working Mom Community Group

Working Mom group at GetVendors. The group owner says about the group: "As I find it difficult, and yet necessary, to continue my profession with my baby, I am here to share and hear moms in similar boat. ..... With this community group, I am seeking chance to talk with other moms (and dads), share stories and see how others are striking the needed balance.

This community group is for working moms who
- Love their family
- Love their profession
- And struggle to balance between work and family"

On a check of the kind of things this group discusses I found things such as: Running a household, Furniture Repair, Children's allergies, Event/Party, Home & Garden, Health/Personal Care, Custom Built Computer, Cooking Lessons,Real Estate/Finances, Moving, Cars - even Tap Dance Lessons. This Working Mom Community Group looks to me like a place that could offer a lot of good advice and sense of community to anyone that is trying to work and still be there for their family, which is something I know from my freelancer lists is something that a lot of other writers try to do.

Blog Marketing

Bloggers can be invaluable as marketers for websites and products. Roughly 35 to 45% of the importance to Google’s algorithm is off-site factors - links pointing to your website from many different sources on the internet.

Blogs are filled with content that the search engines crave, they also link to other websites they talk about within their posts. This means that as a blogger a writer can provide valuable product placement exposure to advertisers. This works for any keyword phrase a site might be targeting for link popularity, but the more popular the phrase is the more links from different Blogs they will need.

Blog marketing sites such as Blogitive were created for this very purpose. Through these blog marketing sites bloggers can be paid to write about and link to websites that submit web releases (mini press releases) to Bloggers.

Writer's Block at Wikipedia
Writer's block is a phenomenon involving temporary loss of ability to continue writing, usually due to lack of inspiration or creativity.

Origins of writer's block
Writer's block can be closely related to depression and anxiety, two disorders that reflect environmentally-caused or spontaneous changes in the brain's frontal lobe.

Damage Estimates for The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift

"This is meant to be fun," said Fred Khoury, the marketing manager at Progressive Direct who worked on a project between Progressive Direct and Universal Studios Home Entertainment to insert a running tally of vehicle damage estimates into the recent HD DVD release of "The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift."

The digital gauge, called the "Progressive Direct: Insurance Damage Estimates", is the first in what Universal and other studios hope is a stream of branded interactive features on their new DVDs. It displays in a small window and keeps track of things such as: "Roof repair: $209, taillights: $451, fender: $618."

This feature, which viewers must choose to turn on, is possible because the HD DVD discs issued by Universal, Paramount and Warner Brothers (as well as those released in the rival Blu-ray format by Disney, Fox and other studios), have about six times as much data capacity as standard DVDs. This extra space gives the studios room for not only high-definition video and enhanced audio, but also interactive features, including games, picture-in-picture commentaries and Web links.

These interactive features can also be a new source of movie revenue, utilizing product placement.
Craig Kornblau, president of Universal Studios Home Entertainment, said, "Product placement is hard because it doesn't all fit, but this gives us new opportunities."

Attention Comment SPAMmers

I have gone through my blogs and checked all of them for SPAM posts in the comments. I have also set them all to require word verification.

I prefer to leave them set for anyone to be able to comment on them, however, if I continue to be SPAMed by people posting anonymous posts for get rich quick sites I will be forced to restrict comments to registered users only.

Comments such as the following will be unmercifully removed from my blogs:

Hey,nice blog!!! I found a place where you can make an extra $800 or more a month. I do it part time and make a lot more than that. It is definitely worth a visit! You can do it in your spare time and make good cash. Make Extra Cash

I am not opposed to your purchasing a brief post that is very clearly marked as an advertisement if you wish for me to post a link to a get rich quick site - this would be as follows:

PAID ADVERTISEMENT
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rates for such advertisements start at $20 for a post and go up based on what you desire to have in the posting and if there is more work than simply posting it on the site involved for me.
Q. Why such blatant markings that it is a paid advertisement?
A. Quite simple really - I screen advertising on this site based on if my readership might be interested. I'm willing to accept advertisements for postings that may not meet my standards, but my readership will know which advertisements I have not hand selected as being of interest to them.
Q. What is the price for getting a post that is not marked as an advertisement?
A. You can't pay me enough to pass a paid post off as being endorsed by me. And, indeed, it is against FTC regulations. When someone is indicating their individual preference there is no requirement for disclosure of either the amount or existence of compensation - when that person is asked to provide a favorable view, or the impression of such, then the FTC guidelines for print media (which covers Internet advertising) specify that there should be disclosure of the information as being an advertisement.
Put simply - if I am being honest I don't have to tell you I was paid, if I am asked to be favorable it effects my ability to be honest so your advertisement will be marked as being an advertisement. If I can not present a favorable post without lying through my teeth then your advertisement will most definitely be marked very clearly as being a PAID ADVERTISEMENT.
Q. Can I pay you after posting?
A. No. Payment will be made before I post the advertisement. I accept PayPal and any PayPal accepted credit cards.
Q. But my site is not a get rich quick site, does it still have to be marked as an advertisement?
A. That depends on the site and rather I am allowed to be honest about endorsing it to my readership or not. Honesty is very important to me. For more information see the question above titled: What is the price for getting a post that is not marked as an advertisement?
Q. How do I ask a question not covered here?
A. Make a comment to this post - if I think others might be interested in the answer I will add it to the above Q&A segment.
If, after having my advertising policies made clear, you would like such a posting please post a comment with a request to this post. If you would not like such a posting, then I politely ask that you please do not post such advertisements in the comments sections of any of my blogs - particularly not posts flanked by my complaints about comment SPAMmers. Thank you.
All proceeds from such advertising goes to pay hosting costs for my Family C.A.R.E. website and to assist in the purchase of my father's powered wheelchair.
Been tweaking the blogs
I've been up working on my websites since 5 a.m., it's now 10 a.m., and I have managed to get a bunch of writing done, added some feedburner links to some of the blogs and even managed to get now three of them looking better than the basic "blog" look they've had.
I have a LOT more tweaking to do, and more blogs that I need to work on, but it's starting to come together into something a bit more like what I had been wanting it to all look like.
Writer's Digest as low as $10.95 a year
You have heard me complain about the new cost of a subscription to Writer's Digest, right? They halved the amount of issues and it's still $24. Well, I found where I can get the magazine for just $10.95 a year, and it's a site I have looked into before - back when I was looking for those Fitness Magazines.
The site is MagazinePriceSearch.com, and they say that you can compare the prices for over 2500 magazines from 24 different online stores and that over 200 subscriptions are $5 per year or less, some being cheaper even than a single issue at the newsstand.
Check them out yourself before you pay too much for your next magazine subscription.
Writing for work and working on Family C.A.R.E.
I spent today doing writing for pay stuff and working on my Family C.A.R.E. site, I set it up so that my blog can be viewed in it since I update the Family Caregiver blog more often than I do the site, this way the website has more current content without my having to update it every day - which I forget to do.
My goal for this month, in recognition of National Family Caregiver Month, is to get that site caught up and organized.
Message/Memo Recording & Organization System
Just a note on something I want to look at later on - BrainCast. This is in Beta at the moment, but it looks like it might be worth checking into. It provides a free internet & phone based message/memo recording and organization system that they say is easy to use and compatible with any U.S. based cellular or regular telephone network.
This is powered by Via:Talk and although I am not finding anything to let me explore it further without signing up, it looks like it would be worth looking into. They say that you can register online and be recording in seconds for free, but I have not yet done that since I am not sure if it would be something I would use or not or if it'll work with dialup.
Okay, I have office tweeked
Spent all day tweeking office and am now ready to get back to writing on my NaNoWriMo project and updating my blogs. I've been fighting the caregiver one, trying to get it set up for FeedBurner - had to reset the template a few times before I got it working so now it's all messed up and I need to work on it a bunch to fix the template back how it should be.
Also have about 2,000 words I need to get done for NaNoWriMo - yuck
And I am plotting to move my bed to the basement - which would mean I would have this room as JUST my office =-o.... YES!!!!
Online Safe Deposit Box - use for co-authoring a book?
Looking for a way to keep that book safe? Maybe you want to keep a copy of your contract somewhere safe that you can access it from any computer at any time? That was the first use I thought of when I saw Online Safe Deposit Box.
They obviously think more in terms of someone who has suffered a fire or natural disaster and wants to be able to get back a copy of their insurance policy or other important paperwork, but I think this is something that could be very valuable to writers.
I plan to look into it for co-authoring a novel with a friend of mine.
Users get a free small-sized Online Safe Deposit Box for one year, and can upgrade to a larger permanent box for as little as $3 per month. Everything is mirrored in multiple countries.
They have 128-bit SSL encryption and will test the strength of your password for you, so you know if it is going to be a good password, and their site says:
"KeepYouSafe.Com makes security a top priority. Everything in the Online Safe Deposit Box™ has been designed to secure and protect customer records. We have contracted with HackerSafe to provide a daily audit of our service to ensure highest levels of Security standards are being met. We understand the seriousness of this issue since our customers are trusting us to store their most private information."
And
"We employ full-time, Certified Security Professionals that are responsible for the design and maintenance of our Online Safe Deposit Box™. All of your information inside the Online Safe Deposit Box™ is encrypted using 256 bit AES (military-grade)."
They offer a free six month trial with no credit card required, after the trial period you pay only $3 per month to continue using a larger sized safe deposit box. You can control who has access by controlling who has access to your password - making the Online Safe Deposit Box look, to me, like a great way for two or more people to work on a co-authored book.
Anyone have a spare 10,000 words laying around?
I'm looking for about 10,000 words if anyone has a few laying around that they're not using. That's about how many words behind I am in my National Novel Writer's Month project now. ::pounds head on desk::
I'm not going to give up though, I'll just use this as inspiration to all those out there what say that it's not possible to start in the third week and make it to the finish line.
I've pulled off last minute escapes a few times so far, I just want to some day get to the end without most of my writing being in the last week. That produces such gibberish that I have no desire to go back and revise it into something good (yes I edit as I go - bad me).
So, I'm now going to do the National Novel Writer's Three Weeks I suppose LOL Any takers on a bet on if I can make it to December 1st with my 50,000 word novel AND my sanity?
I'm in trouble
I just realized I am in trouble. I have slacked off on my NaNo writing to the point I am now on day 5 and only have a bit over 5,500 words. That is HALF of the count I should be at today. Thankfully though, I think I can salvage it. Them words was wrote in one evening so if I can turn it around and write another 5,500 words tonight before bed I'll be on target. ::crosses fingers::
I need to buckle down and do it, would be soooooo nice to have a novel I can say I wrote and I know I can do it. Long before NaNo even started I had wrote an 80,000 word novel in 30 days, so I know it's something I am capable of pulling off. Of course, that was BEFORE I became a full time caregiver and had the luxury of locking myself in my room all day and not being disturbed as my parents and sister and bro in law played pinhocle (sp?) at the kitchen table.
So - tonight my heroine gets POed at the school principal (going to be a fun scene to write), and I figure out what's up with the hero and maybe even the sparky stripper.
More about Newgie
I have been using that site Newgie.com for a few days now, it's that new news site that I talked about it a few days ago where the stories are rated based on how many people are reading them. Anyway, I have to say that I am highly pleased with it so far.
I had been using CNN as my news source, but it seemed to be determined to deluge me with information on people that have died and stuff that just - well, stuff that puts me in a highly depressed mood and makes it VERY difficult to fend off the depression that is a big part of being a family caregiver.
When I found Newgie one of the first things that I noticed (and pointed out in the post I made on it) was that it looked like I could avoid stories I did not want and see the ones I wanted, see ones that others with my reading interests liked most. Well, I am very happy with the results I have so far been getting and intend to set Newgie as a "Must Visit" site for fist thing in the morning - something I have never done with any other news site. It's refreshing to see what I want and still see what everyone else is reading.
I began playing more today, looking at the settings and such. I found a community I was apparently auto subscribed to when I joined called "WOW! News that makes your jaw drop", interesting set of stories there. I'll definitely have to check it out at least a few times a week. I also found a RSS feeds listing so I can subscribe to RSS feeds - looks like I have to pick from their current selections rather than add my own, but they seem to have an option for suggesting feeds you'd like.
Still, no more than I have seen, I really like the site. Just in time too, since I was starting to move to FOX News since my dad watches that, and I like Newgie.com better so far.
Slacker!
Okay, after getting off to a GREAT start (over 5,500 words) I have slacked off and not worked on my NaNo story. Bad me. I will get back to it, I promise, but I have blogs I have a comiitment to and so I am committing to them. At least for a little while. Still have plans for the story, so I aim not worried about catching up to where I should be.
Yesterday was a loss because of tire changover - but I did get some work done on my blog's rules, so will be posting my official stance by this Monday - I hope.
NaNoWriMo 2006 update
Well, I spent the morning and afternoon typing away on my story. As I just told V - the muses decided they liked the story. I'm not sure what I plan to do with a sparky stripper yet, but the poor housewife was having what I think was a full blown nervious breakdown when I last saw her.
(V points out I still can't spell nervous. Hey, at least she got me to spell shrug right over the last 5 years. O:-) )
Besides - spelling is what spellcheck is for. Right?
Okay, so I added to my story, it now stands at 5766 words as the official NaNo word count. I botched two scenes so that deleted 101 and 125 words from the story, but Chris Baty said they still count for the NaNo count, so I saved them as bad scenes and moved on.
Laptop Powerjacks
Every writer's best friend is their laptop. It allows us to write anywhere at any time. After my poor baby had a bad experience with an unknown liquid that fried out it's keyboard, I have come ot appreciate being able to find computer parts for reasonable prices. I found a site called PowerJacks Online that sells Laptop DC Jacks (you know, the little round thing that you plug the power adapter into). I was able to find where they have the one for my little laptop for $10. They also list that they can install most jacks for $149 or that you can contact them if your jack is not listed. I have not bought anything from them, but since I have that eMachine that is suffering power troubles I figured I would at least bookmark them here on the chance that someone else might be interested in the things. These guys just seem to sell laptop jacks, so I'm still on the lookout for a place I can get things for the broken desktop.
NaNoWriMo Update
Okay, I've got three scenes written out for my novel, the introductions for the two lead characters and a possible third character. 2,532 words, so that's good. I exceeded my goal. To make it to the end of the month I need to write 1,667 words a day, so I am now a comfortable 865 words over for day one.
The trouble is I have no idea what the actual plot will be. Although I did introduce some kind of plants that are somehow tweeked by scientists that might play some kind of role. Not sure yet of they'll be a plot point or just how the lead got the little tree growing on the corner of his desk. - maybe they're not for growing in deserts or genetically made to grow better fruit, maybe they're miniature plants for use on space stations or something? I dunno. They're a minor plot device used to introduce the lead right now.
Oh, on Newgie!
I deffinately like that site! Went there earlier and was able to quickly find stories of interest to me in just a few minutes. Including one about a Vermont Program that pays family caregivers $10 an hour through Medicaid. Alaska has something like that, but my parents are like $5 over the amount to qualify for Medicaid. Why can't the dang Ways and Means Committee and Energy and Commerce Committee get their butts off bill 175 and do something with it so people in my posistion can get paid? It's been stuck in them committees since I think Feb of 2004 now - would have to check.
Anyway, I'm deffinately liking Newgie, check it out if you haven't yet. Link is about three posts back I think.
- Off to get 2,000 words wrote on my Nano novel in the next... :::wince::: 10 minutes??? =-o - Okay, maybe I'll be a day behind on that thing. LOL. 2,000 before bedtime works better I think. ::nodding::
NaNoWriMo is here!
Okay, it's here, NaNoWriMo
I'm officially INSANE. I am going to work my way through a 50,000 word novel over the course of the next month. As of this moment I have no idea what I am up to, had no plot up until about 10:30 this evening when my friend V logged off for the night. Just before she left things went along the lines of:
me: Wait!!
V: =c?
me: O:-)
me: I don't have ANY plots on what I am working on for NaNo - care to pitch a random genera at me to write in?
me: Will take anything as a start from scifi to gay to christian
V: genre?!? uhmmmm... westerns or for some unknown reason film-noire type detective mysteries are the first things that popped in to my head as a definition of 'genre'.
me: that's what genre is
V: so you want more thoght than just knee jerk jeopardy? LOL
me: either way, I can start on knee jerk and change later LOL
V: alrighty then. modern/urban fantasy.
me: As in elves in suburbs?
V: or as in xmen in suburbs, yeah, basically
me: ..................::::pondering possible muses::::..... OOOhhh Xman types --- ohhhh, more muses
me: Was thinking as I watched Heros I should write xmen type one day
me: Okies, you go sleep, I'll go unload washer and dishwasher and reload them and then writre
me: then write
V: exactly, that's what i consider urban fantasy. it's technically scifi, but, more whimsical
So that's what I am starting with on my plot plans for NaNo - an urban fantasy type novel that as of now has no plot yet.
I have decided on two characters though. A suburbanite type housewife and a guy I am pondering making a wealthy playboy philanthropist type. We'll see how it works out. So no my normal genre so it'll be a interesting challenge to tackle. No name for it yet other than "NaNoWriMo 2006" - not a very catchy title.
I'm thinking it's a good thing I decided to go back on my diet today. I can loose weight by typing instead of munching on stuff. - yeah, right, like that's ever worked before.
Oh, and I have Chris Baty's book this time, No Plot No Problem, so I'll be working my way through that as I go along. (Chris is the guy that started this whole insanity of 50,000 words in 30 days.)
